So, I went out on a hunt to my local FLAPS in search of a CI-4 rated, high zinc (.14% or better) dyno based oil, without luck. I tried Pep Boys, but all they had was Rotella T with a "CL-4" rating (most likely .06 to .08 zinc content).

So, without having to go out and buy it off of the internet (not my preference), does anyone know of a brand of oil (dyno based, as the engine has over 120,000 on it) that I can find at a local FLAPS that has a CI-4 only rating?

I read TENCENTLIFE's thread, along with the informative link to oils he provided. I just want to know if there are other brand oils (dyno based) that I can looke for that a FLAPS might carry.

Bucko, as far as I'm concerned, we've lost the war in the oil--so it's additive time. BG MOA is considered absolutely the best thing to minimize metal-on-metal wear in the crankcase, so Winston and Big Dodge are going on that diet until further notice.

I wonder how many poor old people are going to find their cars' engines destroyed because their oil suddenly didn't protect their cams?

Best!

Buck,

Take a look for any Citgo Superguard oil.

It still has the API SL rating's, and I found mountains of it available at several local auto parts & Farm Supply store's.

Murray's Auto Parts is one of them.

Check out any local motorcycle shop's--

They are all exempt from the EPA's downgraded oil spec's.

How may Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, dealer's are around just to name a few ?

--plenty--

I've checked it out and they still have the higher graded dino oils available.

I have plenty cycle shops around.....I'll check them out.

I'll also look for the CITCO Superguard brand as well.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for.

Explain what "BG MOA" is....a brand of additive? Who sells it?

I'd prefer to get the zinc with the oil, but if adding it is the only way, then I'd consider it as a last resort.

BG I'm pretty sure is a canadian outfit, and also is an oil manufacture.

A buddy of mine used to drive a semi for a canadian outfit, and he used BG oil---he's buy it when he was up there.

The MOA stuff they have is very similar to STP.

I've never seen BG oils or their additives available around here.

BG is out of Wichita, Kansas.

If you're interested Terry, I can hook you up with a local distributer.

I've used MOA in my '90 GLI 16v w/ 160K and all I can say is that the motor ran quieter and smoother, and seemed to burn less oil. Haven't used it in my wbx since I've been using M1 15W-50 syn. Heres a link to an analysis of the stuff.

Huh---

Never have seen any BG products here in the Windy-

Not in any speed shops, bike shops or truck dealer's.

That doesn't mean that somebody around here doesn't have it.

The only guy I used to see with it was my buddy outa canada, & he's buy it up north somewhere.

I'm good to go with oil for quite awhile-

I bought two drums of Mystic JT-8 at Farm & Fleet-- it still has the SG, SH, SL, CI ratings--

It's a real good dino oil.

Terry, What is the shelf life of dino oil? I have heard that it will break down in long term storage. I would love to stock up for life before it is NLA but am concerned about shelflife.
