I do not think there is a reasonably priced muffler system out there yet for the Vanagon, and even fewer for the Syncro. I did get the entire ceramic coated S&S system. It has been on for nearly 3 years here in snow covered Northern Arizona. So far it is not rusting. A bit of ceramic flaked off at the 90° bends out of the cylinders, other than that it has held up. I really would call this a 5 year muffler system, not one you could depend on forever. Enough folks have had problems, that I would say the quality varies. The others manufacturers don't seem to have a good track record either.
Personally, I hope someone, like 10¢, comes up with a real tuned stainless system. I was really un-impressed with the stock system, mine was a block of rust, held together with very poor flanges and weird seals. The Vanagon is not unique to poor aftermarket systems. When I was dumb enough to own a 911, the stainless system I paid big bucks for, also self destructed. Stainless cracks easier, regular steel rusts. If someone made a Titanium system, then we would be someplace.
