I'm posting this thread to allow those that do a search looking for GL-4 to use in their Vanagon manual transaxle transmission.
Go to a NAPA store and ask for STALUBE part number SL24239. NAPA is a distributor for STALUBE products.
The above product comes in a 1 gallon container and the cost is $18.71 out the door (Florida price including tax). Since the transaxle holds about 3.2 quarts, assuming you can get all of it drained, this is enough to do 1 transaxle oil change with some oil left over. _________________ Current VW drives: 1984 Westfalia

Bucko,
I think you mixed up your pints and quarts. The Bentley says 3 quarts or 3.2 liters to fill the manual transmission. In other words, you'll use 3/4 of that gallon for one gear oil change.
I've used the NAPA stalube and it's probably the cheapest option. Now my van shifts better with redline MT-90 synthetic, especially in the cold.
Instead of using a pump, I drove the van to warm up the gear oil, then raised the front end and drained. _________________ 1990 GL 7-passenger

You were correct. I edited my post for future searches to find the correct information.
For punishment, I went out, drained the transaxle, changed it with the Stalube GL-4, then read all of MSINABOTTLE's songs, 3 times each! _________________ Current VW drives: 1984 Westfalia
