Here is a sample of what we've done in the 15 months we've owned our '87.

There's more yet to do than there is time to work on it, so I don't know if we'll ever finish. Hard to work on the van and camp at the same time. |

The only mods are the Porsche Club Sport steering wheel, custom drink holder (thanks Ron), and Volkswagen logo'ed up fan. |

Greetings TSR53, Where did you get the fan?? Me thinks its a pretty cool item. How about the VW logo..did it come with the fan or did you customize it. Whats the small "white"box thats hanging below the drivers side knee hole?
Thanks for the ideas guys and gals.

HI Robert,
- Fan is a WalMart special for $8.95 or so, similar unit that GoWesty sells... I removed the ashtray and built a small foamcore change box to sit in it's place right next to the fan.
- Volkswagen logo was from here >>
http://www.cartype.com/page.cfm?id=229&alph=ALL&dec=ALL
and sized in Photoshop, then printed and covered with a some stone guard and then I used thin double sided tape to stick this onto the fan.
- The white box down below is a PIAA light relay box, you can see the two toggle switches for the twin H4 hi/low rallye lights I mounted on the steering column. Thread on how I mounted these is here >>
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=245836
- The factory Porsche Club Sport Steering wheel can be purchased from here >>
http://www.automotion.com/productpage.aspx?cid=2&sid=173&pid=109786
...and can fit many different Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche vehicles. Fortunately, I was able to get this from a friend who worked for Porsche in Denver many years ago and have had it on three cars I've owned so far!
1987 Porsche 944
1984 Audi urquattro
and now
1991 Volkswagen Westfalia
Love the fact that all the steering wheel shaft splines are the exact same. I had to use an Audi urquattro (same as an Audi coupe or Audi 4000 quattro) turn indicator plastic piece instead of the Porsche supplied version as it's on the right side for the VW and Audis. Other than this, it bolts right up.
- The cup holder was custom built by the previous owner Ron M of Westys in the Woods fame. Thin Formica covered good solid stuff. Very nice. |

TSR53, Some good information there!! I was pondering a way to attach the fan to the dash without making it permanent and I like the ash tray idea
Thankx,

Also, forgot to mention I installed a thumbwheel rheostat in the fans' little black switch block. This allows variable speeds. |

Here is my dream configuration. It's a wolfsburg/bluestar interior in a 87 syncro with sunroof.
Along with the interior I installed power mirrors and power door locks on the front doors.
