I,m building a 1914, 94X69. I have a pair of 043 heads with 40-35.5 valves. I measure the cc's at 48. Does this sound right? I have a deck of .122 and this gets me a 7.9/1 comp. Would I have to cut the heads .030 to get to 8.5/1. I have a engle 110 cam and 40idf carbs. |

They could be 48cc, though that's not a lot. You're math is right, but to get to 8.5 you need to either take .030 off the deck height, or drop the heads to 42cc. I would leave the heads alone. |

With the W110 cam I would leave the compression at 7.9. You will not gain any notacible amount by increasing it to 8.5 _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Always modify the cheapest part. The cylinders cost less then the case, so you should shorten the cylinders. If you screw it up, it is cheaper to buy a new set of cylinders then a new case. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Can I just chuck up the cylinders in my lathe and take off .030 from the top? |

I turned .030" off the botoms of mine with a brake lathe.
Tedious, but effective. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747
