Definitly high on the agenda. Laughing

Make sure you keep those semaphore replacement lights though. They are too cool. They were used in cold climates due to the ice and snow preventing the semi's from working.

Hey kafer53 thanks for that tidbit of info. I did wonder why they were there. I thought it must have been a replacement for certain regulations of the day. I definitly want to go back with Semaphores.

Sorry for the dome light lens interuption. Laughing

Actually the VW Touareg has a starter button standard on the European 2004-2007 and the US 2007 V10 TDI. That qualifies as a high-end luxury car. Very Happy

Great car by the way. Good luck getting the 53 back on the road.

Confused I took mine off this morning and I can't see any indication of white paint. The silver is flaking off but no white.

I'm keen to see whether my light has white paint inside but I don't think it will be removed anytime soon Laughing , it needs to be removed when the car undergoes its resto but seeing as how rare these '53 lights are, it isn't a job I look forward to for fear of breaking it.......... Wink

Here are my two 53 interior lights. My zwitter one has no sign of ever having white paint on the underside. The 53 oval one has some left over white paint underneath but I'm not sure if it is original or not. It's kind of sloppy and looks like it may have been a home made paint job.

We need to rename the thread. "A case study in 53 oval dome lights - white paint or not?" Laughing

Hello,

Very nice car you have there, thanks fot sharing it with us. If you want to swap pics I am very intrested because I own a november 1953 oval wich is under construction at this time. Any pics can help me.

In the car there was a 2 position interior light. When I took it out there was one small crack in it, the inside was painted in creme white and chrome painted on the edges. When I wanted to clean it up in hot water with a cloth all the paint came off !!!!! Evil or Very Mad Stupid from me of course.

The first 2 pics shows this light. After a cpouple of months I was lucky enough to find another original 53 interior light at a swap meet! Laughing
This one you see in pic 3 and 4.
This one has also the white and chrome paint on the inside and 2 position switch, it is very untouched and I am planning on using this in my car without cleaning it.The other one I want to restore with fresh paint and then sell it. The problem is getting the chrome paint on it. IF SOMEONE OF YOU HAS ANY SUGESTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

grtz, Michel

Looks like I'm going to paint it now. Anybody know where you can get the plastic re-chromed. Hemmings has some places listed on the East Coast, but I was hoping to find someone in California. Confused

First off this post has nothing to do with a dome light. Laughing I cleaned the car out Sunday and I think the pans and heater channels are f**cking sweet. Other then the battery tray of course. Opinions on who has the best patch pan? I was told Wolf Parts does, anybody else?
