I have reset my springplate to 20* (factory spec per Bentley), installed the "shoes" and I have to fight to get the wheel to clear the wheel well. I had to take the air out of the tire so I could pound it in. I have stock 14" wheels with 195/75 tires. I really don't want to cut the wheel well, but will if I have to.
What are other options? Lower profle? Larger diameter wheel? Or?
If this has been covered before, I'm sorry. Could you please direct me to the correct thread. I looked throughout this one and did not see it addressed (although I may have missed it).

I've got a lowered split and have had to deal with this problem. You need to figure out a good way to jack the wheel down...
take a factory bug jack, do some creative welding/ fabrication and make a jack you can use between the springplate and frame or something of the sorts. I've heard of people using bottle jacks but I'd want whatever to be somewhat secure, I'd be kinda scared the I may catch a flying bottle jack in the chest or head. |

sorry about the double post didn't notice that until u said somthing......um do you mean when the tire is off is it hard to get it back in..if so yes it gets alittle tricky.... |

do you have a hard time getting the back wheels to clear the fender lip when you go to put them on the bus? From the sounds of it, looks like I'm just going to have to live with the difficulty of getting the back wheels and tires on and get a 12v tire pump.... |

hey weekender........ What size and rating are those tires? Are far off of the ground are you? I am going with the 165/50's front and 185/50's out back this winter. I have already installed my 4" narrowed beam w/ drop spindels. Just working out the breaks,wheels and tires right know!
And for those of you qiuck on the key board ...... Yes it will ride like shit and yes I will have clearance issues and yes I will have under rated tires on it! It is a toy for me not a camper or daily driver.[img][/img] _________________ Always looking for a good opportunity !!!

Hi, have read this thread with interest.
I have a splitbus with Creative engineering rear irs. It has their adjustable springplates with the rest being bay parts. I find the rear end has way too much negative camber with (equal) wear on the inside of both tyres. I have read all 17 pages and would like opinions on boomerang plates V horseshoes (I like the fact that they both do not add to wheeltrack as I have precious little room in there!) I also read on the first page or so that the top two bolt holes between the springplate and trailing arm can be spaced with washers/machined spacers. This latter method is obviously dirt cheap but wouldn't it be a bad idea as if you are pushing the top face away by fitting spacers then in theory wouldn't the bottom face not be sitting exactly flush (if you get my idea...)
Is it a simple case of you get what you pay for??!!!!

195/75/14 all the way around.. i don't know what rating they are but they are Mud and Snow. the bottom of my front bumper is 10inches of the ground. and the step is 5inches. I would like to change the front to a 185/75/14 |

I've read all of the threads on lowering Bays and flipped ball joints. Here's a picture of what I'm after. I wanna know if any one has tried to find a ball joint that press in through the back side. This set up doesn't look safe because the ball joint could pottenially pop out under pressure. But if you could find a ball joint with the retaining lip on the other end, we might be onto something.

lots of info in here, and i can only wade through so much. I am looking for information on beam adjusters for my bus. anyways, i was hoping to see if there was an option besides the toothed adjusters as i dont feel they are strong enough for me as i still use my bus as a work truck. I have seen the screw type for beetles, maybe they exist for bays as well? any suppliers or links would be much appreciated. _________________ [email protected]

cool to see. unfortantly that is similar to the beetle style which i have heard of having strip out under hard use. my bus wieghs a lot more up front than a beetle, but i wont push it THAT hard, but still its goign to see its fair share. what I really want is a set of these for a bay:

There are no bus adjusters in this style because of the Pitman arm box on the front of the bus beam. The single best adjusters to get are the ones mentioned earlier from CB Performance. They have larger teeth than any other adjuster I've seen and I doubt you would ever have a problem with them stripping out. Here's a picture.
