So,what year's the splittie in the background?

Thats my '65 Bus, started life as a panel, converted to a camper.
It has a sad history, the guy that sold it to me in '98 would'nt give it to his son, who wanted to "Dead head" it & tour. About 3 years latter, his kid and a freind killed a Dartmouth Prof. couple in there home. The kid is doing 25 years in N.H. State Prison.......... Confused Sad

Cost under $50, one box of Pergo is just enough to cover the floor of a Westy. It did require some table saw finessing.

This stuff is TOUGH. My power staple gun can barely penetrate the surface... I think it would be difficult to scratch. Add a nice throw-rug and some anti-slip stuff and you're golden!

Sure beats the gray rubber stuff that was in there before. With the underlayment the new floor is about 1/16" thicker. There are no issues with any of the cabinets or anything, except that I was sloppy and forgot which screws go where...

This is the sub floor that came out of my van. pics from the other post. the floor was 1/4 thick and the laminate that I picked up is 1/4. do I need a sub floor? did you use one? Also my sub floor went under the kitchen, rear heater and seat. I cant tell but does your laminate go under the kitchen / seat? Right now I have everything out (kitchen /seat).

And what is the hole in the floor for? Thanks for the help.

Laminate flooring / 'snap-lock' type so no glue / looks like tile / the threashold is a piece of hickory (baseball bat wood)
love it... looks great, easy to clean, is made for commercial applications and comes with a 10 yr 'mall environment' guarantee

Thanks for the non-Westy pointer. I'm planning on getting wood over the winter in my '84...although that whole, "...if you have wood for more than 4 hours, contact your Doctor...", thing kinda scares me! Shocked

What did you use for the "underlayment?" Or does it come with the product?

I saw a ton of this stuff, in several different non-woods, at Costco the other day.

I kept the subfloor (two small pieces of wood) under the fridge/water tank cabinet to keep the height the same to match the bolt holes. I did not use any subfloor for the cabin area, instead I used two layers of soundproofing material and two layers of sound deadening foam that normally get installed under laminate flooring. I also removed that metal tab that is welded into the floor. I think it is a mounting point for a cabinet that goes there in a different edition vanagon...maybe European model

And again,

Quote:

I've read a bunch about the soundproofing on the body, but what didja use under the floor? And I'm still interested in learning more about the overall "under-layment" of the non-wood from the plastic and Formica trees.

Thanks, as always.

I used plywood as a subfloor.

Dang, nice diagonal action.

Someone asked about underlayment-- For a subfloor I first used some normal hardwood floor underlayment from HD (plastic sheet with a little foam on one side about 1/16") but later replaced it with some raammat stuff I had left over ("ensolite"). I think a couple layers of that would be ideal if it fits. I'm not convinced it makes that much of a difference really... placebo affect you know.

I tried it with no underlayment the first time. It was kind of spongey. So the wife wanted me to do something else with it. So I pulled it back out and put down the 1/4" plywood. Then I glued the laminate to that. Rock solid now.

Once again, I used two layers of soundproofing and two layers of foam underlayment under the laminate flooring. This turned out to be close to the same thickness of the 1/4" or 3/8" subfloor that I removed under carpet.

hey allsierra, how did you mount that middle seat? do you not have tracks? that seems pretty dangerous.

if that was just a test fit, disregard.

There are tracks. Just hard to see them from the pick I shortened it so they didnt stick out past the seat itself. And I just used longer bolts and went though the plywood. Im not sure how unsafe it is there is the same amount of bolt holding it to the floor.
