I don't have a picture...
But when I was a kid, a family member owned a bug convertible that was "radically" custom.
It had a 400 Olds motor mounted behind the seats, Olds tranny, then a chain drive and sprockets that stuck out the back of the car. It had open exhausts that went straight up out of the top. It also had two dummy blowers.
The last time I saw it (in the 80's), it was white with red flames and the word "Defiance" on the door. Had slicks on the back and was supposedly a wheel stander. I doubt it ever saw action as it was a show car. It was owned by Chuck Mathis of Roseburg, Oregon in the 80's.
I was wondering if anyone knows of its whereabouts. Or a picture?

That's what I was thinking. Why be a jerk??? Just move on to the next post.
Just had to say something, I guess. I do appreciate his moving this back to the top as I would love to see this car again. |

I cant say I remember the car, but I have known Chuck Mathis for awhile now. He is one of the greatest painters I have ever met. Super nice guy too. |

Paul down at Kelly Trailer in Goshen has a Baja with the Toronado engine and drivetrain installed.....it's a mid engine set up. It's also for sale, be a good start for a reproduction of the car you're looking for. _________________ '67 Sunroof

I think he painted the bug as well. Did you ever see his Crosley with the 427? |

Is it white and parked so you can see it from I-5? If so, I have seen it over there.
Actually, the bug I was referring to was a show car. Now that I have owned a few ACVW's, I have a new appreciation for it. |

I'll be driving right by there in a couple of hours on my way to Roseburg tonight.
Mid-engine Toronado? I need to stop by and look at that! |

Finally got my mitts on some pix of the car. These are from the 80's, and come to find out it was sold back then to someone in Texas.
Anyone know of its whereabouts?
Don't worry...I'll beat you to the punch and post these in the abortions thread as well. |
