Is the padded dash top only for 1960 Ghias?
It started an August 1959? It is a record of the first and last chasis #'s?
Never available for Low Lights?

I remember that someone in Australia is reproducing it, Do they also have the trim that goes in the lower edge?

You can actually see if you car should have a dashpad or not by looking at the dashface itself. IF it has the edge on the metal dashface it shouldn´t have the dashpad. This edge disapeared at the thime the dashpads were introduced (think it was as early as March-59..have the starting win# at home).
This photo shows a correct early pad mounted on a car that is to early. It doesn`t fit properly Wink

Thank you!
Great explanation, if possible please post the starting #.
What about the trim that goes at the lower edge, it is not showing at that picture. Was it introduced at the same or at a latter time?

That trim appeard on 1960 year model...so forget about that Wink
Also the air-vents came in metal from this model (compared to the one above that only had a cut-out in the vinyl)

The padded dash top was only for 1959-1960 Ghias. See this link:

1959 and onwards I would say Rolling Eyes
That link also shows the vent trims that appeared at the same time as the lower dash-trim

The dash pad came on-line on January 26, 1959 production (chassis 2257235). The first version did not have trim for the defroster vents or the lower edge.

The second version (with trims) came on July 6, 1959 (chassis 2490635). so very close to the end of the lowlight period (chassis 2528668)

Great information!
Also the dash top changed from a strips to a flat pattern. Do you know when that happened?
Thank you!

Just to put a spanner (wrench) in the works !! My Dec 16th 1958 built lowlight (birth certificate detail) has the later style smooth section of dash metal, but has the early air vents - so is this a dash pad trial vehicle, or did the metal stamping arrive for assembly prior to the dash pads being available.

Confused

What exactly do you mean by ”early air vents”? Did the airvent (the hole itself in the metal of the dash) differ too?
