Warning: This is long winded, but there are a few folks on TheSamba who wanted the whole story.

So a month ago I had my swamp cooler swiped from my wrecked squareback sitting in front of my house. I was pissed, but mostly at myself for leaving it in there overnight. Subsequently, I have spent the last three weeks on eBay looking for a replacement and decided to check the classys here on theSamba. Last Tuesday night I came accross something very unsettling. Lo and behold I saw an ad for my swamp cooler for sale about 45 minutes away from my house near Tacoma.

Here is the ad: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=557662

The stupid f**ker posted an ad for my stuff here, and I spend an hour here almost every night! Shocked Kyle Dionne is about as stupid as they come.

Now imagine my rage and need for an instant rallying of the troops upon seeing the ad. I immediatly called every person I could as backup for a trip to go kick some ass. I had no shortage of people ready to go. I then called on the advise of Localboy. He calmed me down a bit and under his advise, I filed a police report with the Seattle PD. I then called the cops in Tacoma with my report number. Much to everyone on the beat-down gangs disappointment, I elected to forego an asskicking of this kid in lieu of going through the proper (legal) channels. I had my longtime freind and new Samba member Bealzabus call the number on the ad and set up a buy. The kid sounded very nervous and didnt want to deal with anyone from Seattle. So Bealzabus told him he was from Sea-Tac, a township closer to Tacoma and far away from where the thief had stolen my cooler. Immediately Kyle wanted to set up the sale, giving up his address and unknowingly sealing his fate.

The next day, I spent about four hours on the phone with Pierce County detectives and SPD cops explaining my case. Having restored the swamp cooler myself, I explained that I know every detail on the thing...stuff that anyone else would never know if they claimed it was theirs. I was advised to go have my buddy Bealzabus go with me to buy the swamp cooler. We called Kyle again to confirm our meeting. At 6PM on Wednesday night, we drove down to where the kid lived. On the way down, Chief Ed Knutson of the Edgewood Police Dept called me personally to advise me and my friend to be safe, sane, and to first stop by the precinct to hand over pics, the can of spray paint I used on the cooler, and to fill out a VERY detailed description of the swamp cooler. After the stop by the cop shop, we went to do the buy. I was so pissed off, I had to stay in the car while he did the buy. I was literally shaking from rage. Bealzabus did the deal and five minutes later we were back to the cop shop with the evidence. We had to fill out another bevy of statements and leave the cooler with all supporting evidence for the forensics team. The next day I was contacted by the detective in Edgewood and he informed me that Kyle was arrested on charges of Class C felony Trafficking Stolen Merchandise. Dancing

If we had gone and taken the stolen swamp cooler back, he would be a free man. But we bought it, and that is the clincher. After his trial, I will get my $$ back as vicim restitution as well as compensated for the gas $$ to travel down there twice and time lost from work.

I hope that anyone who knows him will give him a giant F**K YOU from me. :fist: I also hope you keep your cars and their accessories outa his theiving little paws. The wheels of justice wont keep him under forever and he has been "no stranger to law enforcement" as one cop told me. Thanks for reading this.[/b]

Nice, Jimmy! Very happy you found a detective willing to hand this fuck-head what was coming to him. Now make sure you follow-up with him/her and provide any assistance they may need. When the prosecutor contacts you make sure you express your desire to hand this dick his ass in court, in a professional way of course. Keep notes, business cards etc.

It's not always that "the system" works, but when it does... Cool

"Yessir" and "nosir" got me real far when dealing with the detectives and officers. Then when I went to recover my stuff today, the deputy was really interested in aquiring a splitty bug. He told me he had one in the 70's and he's been reading forums and classys on theSamba for two nights now (because of my case) and he wants another one. When I pulled up in the notch, he was asking all kinds of questions about it. We may have another officer in our ranks.... Smile

That's a classic... hope you save a copy of the ad off the site to for further "evidence" even though it's probably overkill Laughing

Not so big a deal. When the courts contact me, I will get to fill out a form detailing the financial impact to me. I would say including the cost of buying back the swamp cooler, my gas, time, and lost wages make this worth a few hundred.

NICE Work!! Put the thiefs and scums in jail. This is why I can't leave my cars sitting out in a parking lot to go eat dinner. I'm too afraid there are weasels like this around. GOOD Job and keep us informed I want to know if the little punk serves any jail time and has to hold anyones pocket.

Well done!

Did they give you any idea if he'll spend time in the big house? And how long?

Please update this topic as the proceedings proceed.

At the very least, the ad should be deleted.

Update:

After Jimmy bought the swamp cooler back and they brought Kyle in for questioning (the first time) he (Kyle) said that he had bought the swamp cooler off of our forum from one of our forum members. The detective calls us, comes into the shop and talks to us, and it just so happens that the forum member that Kyle said he bought it off of was there that day. We helped him out as much as we could, and to make a long story short when the detective left they brought Kyle back in and questioned him again and he confessed and is now in jail awaiting arraignment this morning.

Jimmy, we are glad that you will be getting your swamp cooler back, and Kyle will be banned off of our forum due to the fact that he tried to pass the buck to one of our forum members.
