Wow.. what a great find.. I thought I had a lead on some vintage photo's of mine.. but my PM's must not be working.. I talked to an old rail road operator a few weeks ago who told me he saw my bus many many moons ago in Glenwood springs.. He said as he recalled, it was used to Transport people from the Aspen Airport to Glenwood Springs.. Seems surely there must be some photo's taken of it by someone..

Seems alot of buses travel great distances in their lives, and in sales and purchases over the years.. A friend pointed out to me.. Mine has always stayed close to home. It started life 90 miles east of me, and rested in a canyon for 35 years 90 miles west of here.. and now, resides right in the middle.. Cool..

If someone has any of those pics brought up months ago about my bus or access to them.. Let me know..

Are you guys missing the early Oval/Split Convertible to the left of the Barndoor or is it just being so disrespected as to not get any mentioning in here?

Wow, just noticed that before I read your post...plus I see another behind the main barn in the shortest row.

Well spotted. Definitely early 'Oval era' (53-55).

More to the point, what's the dark coloured 'vert in the foreground (the one with the hood up)? It looks like it has a pre-A Porsche front end with a coachbuilt back end. Not a D&S or Rometsch, but something in between?

late '57 - mid '58 deluxe with later bumpers.

maybe it got repainted when it got the bumpers. that would explain its oddball color for that year.

Another interesting picture. I would love to see some different angle's of the stretched single cab. This is the only angle I've seen of both the Porsche and VW.

Anyone have another angle?

I remember seeing the recreation. I think it was taken in France. One detail I noticed different were pressed bumpers on the original pic & later bumpers on the recreation. Otherwise it looked pretty close to the original.

Gibb's, post up the other pic if you can find it...I'd be interested to see it.

was that because he wrecked it?

I heard from some local VW people in KC that Art is still around, but somewhat of a hermit. none of them have been able to get to talk to him.

i think it was scrapped because of a wreck, unfortunate cause they were highly coveted even in thier day. when the pic i gave uzi saw press on the 356 registry im sure he got hounded,i think they followed up in the next issue that art had no patience or care to talk of these cars. they did affirm that the 550 was scrapped by him personally. they keep pretty close records of all 550's living and dead
