It looks like I have off-white sludge coming out of the oil breather hose coming off the filler...

It's from condensation.. .that it for a long drive and get it up to operating temp so the water is boiled off. _________________ Glenn

Change your oil a little more often in the winter or go for a long ride to get it up to operating temp and burn it off. |

I have the same thing in my motor. cleaned some of it out today. did an oil change too. I drive about 100 miles a day. So long drives dont help. |
What kind of oil? Some are more prone to this condition... _________________ Richard Sedoris - VW Performance & Machine - Youngstown, OH

YEap. Put the thermostat back in!
That is the only way you will get that condensation off.
All cooling systems that do NOT have any thermostatic controls will have this foaming problem. This includes the DTM.
It is not just cooling that you need to have. Correct temperature control for the motor is what you want. In this, the STOCK VW cooling set up with intact thermostat is very hard to beat. Summer or Winter...perfect everytime.
A good serpentine system like the one John (ACN) sells and a stock configuration cooling is very good for higher end power VWs. |
