I paid $1,700 for this 66. It is a California car that ended up in Kansas (no rust). The car came with the black and yellow california tags that were on the car back in the 60's. My car ran, but need some engine work, brake work and the interior was rough. A little tlc and a few hundred later I have a nice cruiser! It now has a 1914, lowered front beam and BRMs (see my avatar)

Well, here it is, $700 bucks. No motor but, has a tranny. Not the best find at the best price but the body is so straight it's suprising. There is a lot of work here. This will probably sit a few years before I do much to it.

The white mountains is a region in east central AZ. Small rural population. most of us know who drive what VW's around here and who works on them too.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think a 63 is 6volt but, what does that have to do with the tranny.

Or is it just better to bolt the 1600 to the original tranny?

yes with modification (grinding) to the bell housing. a 74 tranny will not work without some EXTENSIVE mods. That car is a swing axle, and the 74 trans is an IRS.
