How do the rear torsion bars come out? The pan is completely bare with the exception of these torsion bars. I tried pulling on them, but they seem to be in there quite firmly. Am I missing something?

The plan is to have the pan sand blasted after the rust repair. Should I leave the bars in there? Or take them out....

Pull em out. Thats it. You dont want those in there during sandblasting. You want to strip that pan bare of anything you dont want sand in or on. What year Bug?

It's a '64. I thought they should just pull straight out....but they didn't seem to want to. Confused

I'll just have to yank harder, I guess.....

Give em a wiggle up and down left and right to try and free them up. They should come out pretty easy.

Are the swing arms still attached to the torsion bars? If not try putting them back on (as in pict) and then use a screw driver to help move it up/down and side to side.

No, the spring plates are both off. If I can't get the torsion bars to pull out, I'll try putting them back on as you've suggested.
