I've been working on VWs since the early 70s.

BTW.. Isn't a Type 181 technically a Type 1?

Now you can compare them and update your pic. There is a difference between the left and right.

I found an NOS set at Bulli Brigade as well.... $25!!!

Yes they are... and they were used on the 73 Type 181... same part number.

I have to look on my ´71 1500SP military 181..there must be something very simmilar closing the gap between lower engine tin and exhaust tubes (no heater boxes, military exhaust with two exhaust cans and Eberspächer)

It's easy to wipe things off when I do a valve adjustment. And every Spring I put the car on a lift and give the bottom a good cleaning.

Trust me... my daily driver is not clean at all.

well those parts are from 1999 so I'd guess you're probably right
