I'm getting ready to tackle interior paint to finish out my interior. My car is a March '55, Strato Silver. Seats are redone in original slate color vinyl and I *think* the carpet is period-correct.

I need to paint:
- gear shift arm
- steering column
- e-brake handle
- bracket holding steering column do dash
- steering wheel (needs restore too)

I also need an E-brake boot - is this supposed to be standard black rubber?

Most of the car is still original so I'm thinking all this might be original color. The odd thing is that some is light grey and some is ivory. For example, the steering column and clamp to the dash are ivory but the clamp holding the semaphore lever to the column and the wheel are both grey...

Hi,

Your style steering wheel was introduced October 1952. This was for export and most likely Deluxe / USA.
Early ones were Grey-beige and changed towards the end of their run (August 1955) to an ivory color.

My guess is that someone, for some reason, replaced the clamp and wheel with an earlier one if everything else is ivory, column, shift, E brake, etc.

So, I'd repaint everything Ivory considering what you have and the late production date of the car in relationship to that of the steering wheel style run.

Rubber mats were black in 55 so I'd think the e brake boot would follow suit.

My car is a Canadian import Deluxe.

So, as you're saying, if they changed the wheels to Ivory in August '55 then mine is correct as grey and everything else should be ivory? That seems a little strange.

Hi,

I'm not sure of the exact date they went to Ivory. I'll take a peek and see if I can find out when I get home.

My point was that I doubt you have the original steering wheel on the car if everything else in the car is Ivory. The Ivory one probably cracked and got ugly looking and a PO found a nice grey one on a junk somewhere or at a flea market and bolted it on.

Hi,

About the steering wheel color.

1954 and 1955 were Ivory.

The one on your car should be Ivory.
