I'm looking at new wheels for my Ghia and I'm having trouble figuring out what offset I can get away with. It's a '68. Transmission is a swing-axle and I put short axles on it. I've been told it can be done so I need some help.

My beam is narrowed 4 inches, so I'm not so much worried about the front as I am the rear. I know the standard is to go with between 38-43mm, but with the short axles can I get away with a 16x7 wheel with the right offset?
I can't mock it up on the car since I don't want to buy the wheels until I know they fit...

Thanks! Smile

Thanks Rob. I looked through that and I'm still not sure about it.

I guess what I am looking for is what offset I need to target in order to get 16x7's to fit in the rear. The wheels are Porsche 7 Slots (or Flat face/dish). The stock offset appears to be 65mm (EDIT: found this info online) and the adapters I found are about 25mm thick. So that gives me an overall offset of 40mm, give or take a couple.

That sounds about right, but if I could find someone who has that size wheel on their Ghia to tell me what they did that would be awesome.

Thanks. Smile

Ewww I hope your adapters are amazing-- everytime I've heard them used the owner regretted them because they tore up his suspension/wheel mounts...

..just saying Wink

Tore up their suspension? How's that?

As far as I can tell it's all just about clearance. As long as things don't rub it should be fine. I haven't seen any info that adapters cause problems. You have a link? Confused
