When is a fridolin too far rotten to restore?
I recently aquired one (71) after it had been sat in a shelter for the past 14 years in the british climate, the passenger floor has rotten along with the sils (heater) but still feel solid, the wings are very thin and spare wheel well gone and plenty of surface rust! It has good sides to it, all glass is in and in tact and jack, steering wheel and seats all present!
I was told this was the first fridolin imported into the UK (1980) and was not a postal van but ordered in white for a baker to use?
Oh and hello everyone, i am new on here, i also have a 71 beetle!

anything is restorable. Time, money, talent, pick 2.... well, I guess with enough $$ you only need one.
Frids are an interesting car. have fun with it. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

With time and money you can do it. It will be easier to source parts because you are already in Europe. Alot of people that have the parts you need will not ship because of cost and trouble to do so.
Good luck. _________________ Rusted Relics

Hey all,
What would a rolling solid fridolin shell be worth with all parts included (windscreen, seats etc) |

It was not smart to take the paint off. I´ll never understand why people are doing that. the problem now is that you have much more rust you have to get rid off.
The only Frido resto I did took me three month full time (12hrs a day, few people are quitting the job for doing that) plus 2 month evening time. Since you can not buy most of the panels you need , you have to make them.
If you are not a bodyman or panel beater do not start on it. You are not going to finish it Making complete side panels and wheel housings out of flat plain metal sheets is not an easy part. Sure, there is also a difference between a resto and a RESTO.
Many Fridos do not look that bad until you start getting rid of all that bondo the PO put on to cover up the rust. Drilling out the roof - removing the rust and weld it back on and still have a straight body after doing that is a different story.
Good luck whatever you do.
Good ones are out there, but those were veeerrrryyyyyyyyyy rare in the 90´s already. |

Unfortunatley the only paint left on it was on the inside! The whole of one side is now solid with new panels and floors in and primed, we have managed to buy a lot of repair panels and also hand made alot more! |
