I know we have all done it at one time or another to work on something hard to get to or hard to work on/remove.

Besides pullers, anyone have any pics of tools that they have made that are a big help when doing work on a seemingly hard project? If so, let's see them! Smile

No pics but I took a couple 17mm nuts and a 17mm bolt to use on the trans drain and fill plugs.

Welded a 36mm socket to an old axle to slip a pipe over and torque the axle nut.

made various pullers and presses to remove things such as stubborn mirror arms (that were cut at the bases), etc.

I dont have a pic. This will kill someone though. Back in the 60's my dad changed the trannyin his 54 bug to a more modern 64 tranny. He didn't have a clutch alignment tool so he cut the input shaft off the old tranny and welded an 1/2 x 8" bolt to it. It said here was nothing wrong with the tranny he just wanted a sycro tranny. I also have a flywheel lock tool cut out of 1/4" plate that is 6volt only that he made.

Rusty but trusty! 36mm socket welded to a length of solid steel.
No zapstraps were harmed in the making of this tool Wink

That's slick! Much better than the socket and mallet I sometimes resort to using.

Type III generator pully wrench:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

No photo, but a dual carb syncronizer barrometer, made from a yard stick and a little bit of oil in a 1/4" dia. clear hose that connects the balance tube nipples on the intake manifolds (also type III).

I also made a transmission oil filler made from a drill operated pump, clear 1/2" dia. hose and copper tube bent into a "J", to hook in to the filler hole. It fills the case in less than a minute.

Here's one for all you guys with lowered busses... super easy to make... allows you to easily crank down the back to remove those wheels, and it can't slip off like the old scissor jack can...

you know, the way to do this thread right is to post the pics WITHOUT telling us what the tool is used for and see if we can guess. These tools are some of finest shade tree implements I've seen. And I know hazetguy is about to give us all a lashing! Very Happy

I was in a hurry, so I made a hubcap clip riveting tool rather than wait for one to arrive.
