Before (a real rust bucket)

The new color is Harvest Moon Beige, a new beetle color. The photo doesn't do it justice. It looks great in real life. _________________ Charlie

I just figgered the photo thingy out today myself, so don't worry. Looks great! A far sight better than the before photo.
Who did it, and what did it set you back? Can you give more details? _________________ '85 Wolfsburg Weekender |

I agree, beautiful paint job... but some details about how you got from before and after are in order... as well as $$$ _________________ "The floggings will continue until morale improves"

Two more pics:
Before, the car had many dents and both rear wheel well lips were damaged. One fairly big dent behind the slider door. Two rust holes around the windshield, and holes in the roof around the luggage rack. It leaked when it rained.
Peter at Volks Cafe recommended Autorella in Santa Cruz. They do a lot of westies. They took the car apart and re-shot the interior as well. They replaced the windshield, and I had the windows tinted. Lots of work. Totel Bill: $8000. $2K of it was the windows and painting the interior. Not a bad price for a Bay Area shop, considering all the work it took. It's a very nice job. _________________ Charlie

just wondering, are those the original bumpers? I like them. I have chrome ones on my 83.
great job on the paint job....I am rather envious. I have a white 83 too, and although mine isn't rusted, it des need a good paint job. I'll kee dreaming for now... _________________ '83 Vanagon (Diesel) converted to a gas 1,8L jetta (most probably) 1993

Thats a VERY good price, considering the interior work , too.
What kind of paint was used? Brand? Polyurethane?
What did they do to treat the rust? Any body work done? Dents, dings etc?
Was welding brazing done in any window rot?
You van is screaming for smoked rear side markers, too.
Nice lookin' rig. |

Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, they are GoWesty bumpers. The chrome ones were orange with rust when I bought the van.
I thought of blacking out the sides to the rear vents, but the lines of the body are not parallel back there. Doesn't quite work.
The rust is 100% gone.
When I drove the car home from the body shop, I stopped by the previous owner's house, which is near mine. He was outside gardening. When he saw me, he was agog. He said, "Where'd you get that?" It told him it used to be his. He could scarcely believe it, but he was very happy. He's a Westy lover, too. He has a syncro now. _________________ Charlie

Van looks great.
I wanted to add that it's easy to hit the preview button before making a post in order to see if pictures are displaying correctly. It is also possible to edit or delete a post if there aren't any posts after it.
Anyway, glad you got the pics thing figured out and as I said, the van looks great.

I just had my vanagon repainted and almost all lower panels on the outside replaced with new ones.
Very nice job at the South Bay Body Shop in Redwood City.
I will post pictures when I get to it |

Nice looking ride!! I have been pricing out top of the line paint jobs and I have had similar quotes for a full windows out strip down and some rust body work. I think if you want an excellent paint job you get what you pay for and you ride looks sweet. Nice job. _________________ Current VW's: 2001 Brazilian Kombi, 1990 Syncro Westy (1.8T APR Stage 3 + conversion in process), 2008 GTI (MK5) APR Stage 3
