The hose that connects the gas tank to the neck is cracked!
I called every place I can think of to replace it. Nothing!
The hose is 16inch long has 45degree bend in it & has 2 1/4I.D.
The only thing I can find is a strait hose that is not flexible enough
To bend it 45d
What did you do to replace this hose??
busdepot said they would look into coming up with a replacement part.
Until then what?
One day while putting gas I noticed gas spilling to floor from middle of bus
I have replaced all gas lines more than once
But it never came to my mind that this was a rubber line that should be replaced also |

Is this on a 76? If yes, I am puzzled by you saying "the hose is 16 inch long".
#6 is the hose:
It was part number 211 201 125 D. It fit from the beginning of 72 to the end of 79.
Ratwell says you only need a foot long piece from NAPA:
1 ft. of 2 1/4" Filler hose to tank hose, NAPA 1055 NBH GAS HOSE

I used Ratwell's advice and bought a piece of hose from NAPA. The rubber elbow behind the gas cap was also replaced. _________________ 1FUNBUG

I bought mine at NAPA also. Why would you not replace it while you are doing all of that other work? |

I tried to find that NAPA hose and they couldn't get it in stock?!?
Our '74 has the earlier fuel door filler hose, (entire passenger/rear side panel was replaced at some point).
I ended up using a combination of 2 lengths of marine-use wire re-enforced fuel hose and an exhaust elbow, also cut to length.
It fit exactly like the original filler hose, duplicating the bent 'L' shape of the original. Everything including the clamps cost me about $25, plus I have enough hose to do another filler hose.
I don't have a photo of it before installation, but I'll see if I can take the inspection cover off later and snap a photo.
No leaks, no fuel smell, nada. I've filled it to the top a couple times now too, just to test my work (as well as the sealing properties of the gas cap). _________________ www.zwerks.ca

I think he wants the hose that was used for only a couple of years, 74 and parts of maybe 73 and 75. It is NLA. The best things for him to do is get the steel filler pipe off of a later Bay which is longer and has the bend in it. Then he will only need a short straight piece of hose at the tank and the other elbow at the gas cap. |

Yes... You should have a metal hose already in there with a bend.. and it has a shorter rubber hose attached to both sides. Are you sure it's one long rubber hose?
Here is my write up on it.

the inlet on gas tank is just barly long enough to clamp on a hose
there is no bend there
the hose comes out of gas tank bends almost 90degree then runs about
10 inchs towards the the back & connects with the neck
that bend is what's making this hard to replace
all auto parts store that carry the filler hose say its only available strait
after doing a google search people with other cars with same problem
have made the bend using a elbow from exaust tubing
i am going to do same thing
ill post pics when done |

Nice work, that's nearly exactly what I ended up doing, except the flexible hose was a different variety. No leaks & no fumes. _________________ www.zwerks.ca |

I replaced mine with a 2 1/4" fuel hose from my FLAPS. Any auto parts store should stock this, and I actually got a length of scrap so it was free! They have to sell it in foot lengths so ask if they have any scrap laying around.
The key is cutting the angle correctly. This makes a big difference when you are trying to fit the hose on the tube.
The challenge is cutting through this hose. The one I used had metal wire reinforcement so it was quite difficult.
Secondly it was very difficult getting the hose on the filler tube. It was a tight fit and since it is angled, it is tough to twist on. Use some sort of lube to make it easier. _________________ '77 transporter 2.0 FI—September 24, 1976 |

The napa hose number is 1055 it's 2 1/4" tubing. I just replaced mine on Saturday. If I did it again I wouldn't cut the tube at an angle like Ratwell mentioned, there's enough play in the filler tube that you can cut the hose a little long and get it to bend. I didn't feel 100% comfortable with the fit I got on the angled cut. Maybe I just cut it at too steep of an angle though.
I also got some camper top sealing foam tape to re-seal the firewall and around the hole where the tank goes through the frame. Hopefully it'll keep the dust and grease out. Looks nice and clean compared to the original foam that was used. |

Thanks for the info.
I have replaced the hose with the straight hose (gates hose 2 1/4). I had cut it at a bit of an angle and installed it as some others have done. I to am not real satisfied with the fit. It seems to be a good fit but just not sure about it. I want to be "sure" when it comes to messing around with gasoline! I saw your repair job not sure if those were your photos,(yellow bus) anyway, I'm going tear into it again. This method with the exhaust elbow looks a like a better way to go. Good square fit to the pipe for the clamps. Why hasn't some outfit manufactured some of the rubber hose. You can find the part that connects at the top of the filler hose, figures!!!!
Thanks Again for the info...

I like the idea of using the metal exhaust pipe.
I used one , but I had it bent to the correct angle and jammed inside my new wire-reinforced rubber hose.
The rubber hose was so hard to bend I thought it would put too much pressure on the neck piece and tear it.

At 75 Euros, this item is rather expensive!

That's an elegant solution which I had been contemplating and which I think I shall try sometime, if and when I can find a curved metal tube of the appropriate size and configuration. It allows one to use straight sections of generic fuel hose, bought from industrial-hose suppliers. _________________ Regards.

just buy the strait gas filler hose
then take old hose & new strait hose with you to your local
exhaust shop tell them you want a elbow with the same bend
as old hose that will be a perfect fit inside new hose.
before they bend pipe check the fit yourself ,making sure its a snug fit
explain what you are doing & they will handle the rest in about 5 min |
