The PO of my 67 fastback secured the cooling flaps on the fan housing at about 1/3 of the way open at room temp. Obviously he eliminated the return spring here, the thermostat however is still connected.
I'm guessing he did this as a safeguard to make sure there is at least some air traveling over the cylinders. But not an ideal situation to get the engine warmed up to running temp right? What I'm wondering is 1. can I test the thermostat, maybe with a small propane torch, just to warm the air up beside it? 2. Would setting the flaps at this position "overextend" the thermostat when it's at it fully open position (high engine temp)?
Thanks[/img] |

You can test the thermostat in a pot of water one the stove. BUT, be sure to leave it in the mounting bracket. If it over expands, it is ruined. Propane torch might melt the solder in the thermostat. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
