|
|
Dear All,
I've been a fan of TheSamba.com for some time, but haven't posted before, so hello from the UK!!
Here is a picture of the beetle I bought and fixed up for my wife earlier this year - I gave it to her as a surprise birthday present...
But, I now have a problem with it...
The drivers side (right hand side) lock mech on my '67 (Sept '66) bug is worn - the usual advice appears to be to swap it for the passenger side but UK bugs didn't have a key lock on the passenger side so this isn't an option - did US bugs have a key lock on both sides? If so I could do the swap if I got hold of a US passenger side lock, does this make sense?
Any advice gratefully received
Juss

Get me a picture of it, and I will go through my stash and see what I have. But I need a picture to match it up.
I probably wont have the key, but any competent locksmith should be able to fix that. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

One option would be to send it to this guy. I have used him and have been to his shop. He has any needed parts. Haven't contacted him in a while but he should still be there...

Another option buy a working one on Samba - they're faifly common and not expensive - especially with the conversion going in your favor.
Good luck with it.

Cheers Russ,
Here goes...
First, this is the worn part of the paddle (circled in red):
Second, the not so worn side of the same lock mech:
A picture of the lock in situ:
I won't need the handle, just the mech from inside - hopefully you can help (obviously I'll pay for any parts/shipping etc).
Many thanks
Juss

Let me look around today and see what I have. I will be going through stuff anyway for a customer that is on the way that lost their keys. I have to rekey the car. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I found 7 handles that look like yours from the outside. After looking them over, I see there are 2 different types of the inside.
I only have one of those.
I do not have a key for it, but I can see in your photo, that they are both a K series key. The others I have that are different are all SC series.
PM me if you are interested. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
