went to bleed the rear brakes on my 60 single. 7mm wrench is too big 6mm is too small. seems to be a 6.5mm. this seems very odd, not a common size. could not even find a wrench that size and any of the local hardware stores. Is this normal? where did you find the wrench? _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

Someone most lilely threw an america bleeder valve as they will fit. So it most likely uses standard wrenches. I have seen this on more than 1 occasion. |

I believe the bleeders on all of my VW's were a 6.5mm. Go to Sears and buy the little tiny set of wrenches that they have. |

im confused. 6mm is way small. 7mm is big. tried most american sizes and no luck.
cant find a 6.5mm anywhere online or any of the local hardware stores.
afraid a adjustable wrench is going to strip it.
guess i will try sears monday. _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

Do the bus a favor and use vise grips to get the violating incorrect bleeders out of there and junk em'. If they're tight, apply a little heat with a torch. Don't break em' off or you'll be a little busier. Replace ALL of them with the correct 7 and 11mm bleeders. |

I only use the box end of 7 mm wrenches on the bleeder valves. Open end = you will eventually strip one |

I actauly bought a "bleeder valve wrench" from the local auto parts store _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

I bought an expensive 7mm snap-on wrench.
It is much nicer for bleeding than the cheaper wrenches. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Another trick I've learned is to GENTLY crack bleeders open with a 7mm 6 pt socket...then use the wrench to bleed... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

And don't over tighten the lines or the bleeders.
Some people's childen have an obsession with doing such things. _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

Some of the cheaper rear wheel cylinders have 1/4 inch bleeders. I believe it's either LBR (italy) or TVS (INDIA) that have these. Just replace them with Varga or aTe (the wheel cylinders). I do not believe metric bleeders will fit. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"
