91 Golf GL, brake problems. The driver's side rear cyl. started leaking and was replaced a month ago, works fine. Master cyl packed up and was replaced a few days later. Bled everything, worked fine for two weeks.
Monday, brakes started fading bad, and finally went completely out. Right rear cyl leaking this time, no big surprise. Replaced & bled it, no pressure at the cylinder. Bleeds ok, no leaks, but it won't move the brake shoes. Returned it as a faulty unt, but second one does the same thing.
Bled all 4 wheels, the other three all seem to work, but the system will not build up enough pressure to stop the car. Could I have another bad master cyl? I'm not losing fluid, and I pulled the new master to check for leaks into the servo, it's dry. Why woud it build up pressure at three wheels and not the right-rear? |

Could be a bad rubber hose there at the beam. |

Fixed it. Replaced the master cylinder AGAIN.
I had the right rear drum off, and had my assistant pump the brake pedal slowly. Nothing. Then I had him stomp the pedal, and I saw a small pulse at the wheel cylinder, then it quickly faded back down. No leaks anywhere, no loss of fluid, so what else could it be? Another faulty master.
Pulled the offending unit back out, returned to the store and they gladly exchanged it (S-G Import Parts in S.E. Michigan, good outfit). Third time was the charm. Bled everything and it all works good as new.
Sheesh...... |

Glad it's working. So, what brand of master cylinders have you been using? |
