I have a 74 thing and i think theres only 63,ooo on it but i dont think its the original motor. The reason why is it has a oil fillter on it. I was wondering if that was a option on the car. Thank's for any help. |

If the filter is off the oil pump it is an aftermarket item that could be put on almost any air clooled engine. Post the engine serial # and someone will be able to tell you. |

Where is the serial # located and should there be one on the engine that matches the car #? _________________ Kevin |

It is under the generator stand, right thru the fan belt, and should start with AM if it is a Thing motor. The 74's started with engine # somewhere around 11,821 according to various references. _________________ '73 Thing--Ted

Sounds like you have the motor that your car came with from the factory. Someone probably slapped the filter on during a rebuild. _________________ '73 Thing--Ted
