|
|
So I tested the rad fan today jumped the wires had the high speed but no low speed. I disconnected the three pin connector on the fan and reconnected it and bam I had both speeds. Jumped the wires again had both speeds, tested a few times and lost everything now I have no speeds. I jumped the wires and checked the 3 pin to the fan, power at both points high and low. I also tried to send power and ground direct to fan and nothing. So my question is, can I assume the fan is shot? Did I burn it out by the repeated tests? It also looks as though P/O got into motor (maybe to rewind) because it looks as though it has been glued together at some point. I tried the search but went 6 pages deep and didn't find anything near my problem. Any help would be great. Thanks _________________ Binger

It sounds like one of the wires to the fan may have a break in it. Flexing the wires during the test could have connected/disconnected the circuit at the break. These wires are old and can go. _________________ -- 1987 Westfalia automatic (Captain Vino) |

there is a fuse and a relay the are part of the fan circuit.
you might have just burnt one of them.
i also thought the same thing.but it waas the fan sensor on the radiator. |

If the relay was blown or the fuse for that matter, I wouldn't get power all the way to the fan would I? I have power to the fan three prong connection. _________________ Binger

If you've correctly jumped power and ground to the fan motor itself and it doesn't run, then it's the motor that's shot. Can't get much more scientific than that. You didn't burn it out by testing it. Messing around by the PO is not a good sign. _________________ Shop for unique Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:
