Most of the lights work now, but.... All four turn signals blink when you move the lever in either direction (like hazzards), and turn signals stop working when headlights are turned on.

Grounds check out, so I imagine it is time to start replacing switches and relays. I see four possibilities:

Headlight switch
Hazzard switch
Headlight relay
Turnsignal realy

Any ideas about the order in which I should replace these? Or maybe there is something else I should do?

I suspect you have troubles in the turn signal canceling ring. Also you have a bad turn signal switch. The bad news with your issue(s) is that you have multiple issues and they are causing random effects. You should try pulling one fuse at a time to try and isolate your issue(s) Be systematic and do it one issue at a time. When the time comes, I have the switches available that you will need. I only use oe German quality parts. I even have some new original now unavailable stuff.

Thanks for the advice about pulling fuses. I was not able to make any real progress, but it forced me to get into the rats nest where I discovered that a PO "customized" the wiring. None of the diagrams match what I have. Whoever re-wired it used coded wires, but didn't leave any kind of schematic.

Re-doing everything will probably be easier than trying to figure out someone else's mess. Is there a way to test switches and relays to see if I can re-use them? Would it be a more cost-effective use of my time to just buy everything new and be done with it?

I have exactly half of the same problem on my 73

no turn signals when the headlights are on

of course I blew hell out of the motor a couple of weeks and now the motor is doing a poor job of keeping the oil on the inside, so it may be a little while before I get to it

Hi,
I have been there before, you said the grounds check out.
I still think you have a ground problem and suggest cleaning every
single one from the battery up to the lights.
Best wishes,

I recently got my wiring squared away on my '73. You can compare your wiring to mine or borrow a switch/relay to test yours.
