I found a stock 71 super with a slight engine fire.
Went to look at it today Shocked
Slight Laughing Laughing Laughing
Melted rear window, tosted head liner and charcoal sun visers......The engine has no carb half melted alternator, melted wires and half melted Dual port intake castings.
Question is how hot is too hot to be rebuildable?
I know every fire is different but at what point has someone's engine come back from a not so slight fire?
Engine fire pictures would be great for reference also.

Kiss it goodbye. The engine is probably locked up. The fire departments use a chemical to put the fire out and it ruins the engines.
This engine is junk.

I've brought a toast bug back to life (a 65 beetle.) I drove the motor another 30,000 miles before rebuilding it. However the damage was not as extensive as the one the original poster described. I replaced: wires, distributor(only for rust), electomagnetic cut-off valve for the 31-pict carb, fuel lines, coil. There wasn't any melted end castings or alternator though. Your fire sounds much worse than the one I cleaned up. I wrap the wires in wiring loom so they don't rub on the metal. Keep them off that carb preheat tube too. Hose clamps. Safety stuff.

The car might be salvagable, but the engine sounds like it's toasted.
