I just purchased what was said to be a ghia roof rack. After anticipating for so long I received it today but had problems attaching it to my ghia's roof. Is it true that ghia roof racks have to be adjusted somehow by bending the metal? I don't think it's too easy to bend german steel and it feels pretty solid.
Please help if you have any knowledge of roof racks.
Thanks,
Oscar

It looks like the front leg was bent or cut & welded. Maybe to fit a bug? It does look like a Notch rack.

I got ripped off on this rack I just purchased from thesamba. The previous owner cut and rewelded this rack and sold it to me without saying anything about it. Looking at it closely I found weld marks on all four legs. What really sucks is that is was an original vw roof rack w/ VW symbol and MADE IN GERMANY stamped on it. Any buyers interested? Does anyone have any notch back roof rack pictures by chance. I need to compare to this roof rack.
Thanks,

As I mentioned in the thread that you have going in the Ghia Forum about this rack, try reversing the rack front to rear.
(or maybe post it in the Type III Forum also, just to be sure.) |

You paid how much???? I just picked one up for $350 in Cincinnati that damn near look NOS. It definately looks modified. Hope you can figure it out. I believe it may fit better flipped around, but I do have the more rounded side of the rack toward the front.
