Ok so I just picked up an 85 vanagon gl, I know jack about them. Plenty of time spent with type 1's, but not spec on the vans... What I see that looks funny to me is the Dizzy, it looks like a type 1 rotor/Cap style. Now when I see some pictures on the web I notice a dizzy that looks like it has no cap and the wires just plug into an open looking setup. The one on this does have a vac advance and is hooked up. So did the 85 come with a type 1 looking dizzy??? The power is very doggy, clean plugs-wires-oil/filter-clean TB-new rotor/cap-slight exhaust leak...rrr

Digijet Vanagon used an old style VW dizzy modified to use a Hall sender. The dizzy had centrifugal and vacuum advances.

With the Digifant VW went to electronically controlled advance, but otherwise a similar distributor.

Check the part numbers, are there points inside it?
All the dizzys for Vanagons and buses look simular, pictures won't help much.
What you should have, has a basic looking cap on it, just like a type 1, not like what you saw on the web.
