looks like it was a cable thsat was cut in two, some cable cut out, straight cut end from the cluster through this clamp along with the end portion, side by side, tightened down and then the threaded end goes as normal.

hoping to get it done by saturday for a show, so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I have done a bunch almost like yours, except I use three of these same clamps. Two facing one direction and the third in the middle facing the other direction. I have run them against a Kennedy stage two PP and no stretching/slipping. This way you can still use the stock wing nut.

In the picture you posted of the cable ends, the top one is for the clutch cable. A nut(which isn't shown) is threaded on the thick flat section, past the eye, almost to the point where it changes diameter The cable with the original threaded section cut off, is threaded though the eye in the flat section then bent double, away from the nut. The nut is tightened back against the bent over section of cable.

It will work for a year or so then the cable will snap. You need to learn how to double clutch to get home.

The best solution is to get a cable shortened by these guys.

The one in your picture is just a standard cable clamp. I purchase them at either my local hardware or at Lowes. Because or rust issues, I try to get either stainless ($) or galvanized. The later ones cost about $ 1.89 each on my last buggy build this spring.

I had trouble with the cable slipping out of the clamp when done like yours. If you have enough cable, loop each end together and clamp the loops never had any problems that way.
Kinda hard to see but this is the only pic I have.

That's how mine was done too. But I have one of those Empi kits for backup if it ever breaks.

this bend int he clutch cable normal? haven't been able to get the threaded end through it. the story is, all tubes are cut in the tunnel. dropped the shift rod to get back there. threaded end comes out of the front half tube, i align it into the rear portion. threaded part goes fully in then stops. i have no leverage to really shove it. i think it is getting stuck at this bend.

cut the bad cab;e to get it out. PO may not have been able either, the cable was cut then clamped to the threaded end remember? the cab;e will go through no problem without thread. also tried threaded end from rear to front and got stuck as well. i wanted to get a properly sized cable but if its not going through its a waste of cash.

Just cut it and clamp it fer crying out loud. The clamps pictured are the same type used to hold cables as thick as your leg together. These clamps are used on tow truck cables, roll off container truck winches, cranes, tug boat cables and prolly aircraft carrier arresting gear cables. You guys think to much.

I had the same problem trying to feed the cable through the tube on mine, I ended up cutting an clamping as others did just to stay sane. Give it a snip, double loop it for insurance...

+1 here. This absolutely won't work if you go with a higher performance clutch/pressure plate set-up.

One clamp worked OK for my 1300 6V. When I switched to a 1600 12V pressure plate and clutch, one clamp slipped. I added another two clamps, just to be sure I didn't get stranded.

Finally, when I went to the Subaru engine with the stage II KEP pressure plate and clutch, I went with a custom shortened cable.

Hope this helps,
Jay
