so we have a chance to up-grade the rims on the bus since it doesn't have the og matching ones and we're thinking about getting some from a guy close in CT. The problem is the size. two are 15x5.5 and two are 15x4.5. Now the question is if we put the 4.5 up front and the 5.5 in the rear will there be any problems that might show up since its a stock heigh bus? Extra wear and tear the could happen from having smaller tires in the front, along with handling?

Porsche style chromies are 5.5" wide. Cool

I've got two 356 chromies on the front of my stock height '61. They rub the rear fender lip even with 165's on them.

Hey, what color should stock 15" bus rims be?

I saw a set at a show once that were painted/powdercoated a light almond color.

What is the offset on those chromies and how wide are they to make them rub in back?

I had some 356 chrome rims and was going to put them on my '61.
They were Lemertz and dated sometime in '65 or '66. (Ie these were not new or repro)
IIRC, the width of the rim was the same as 15" bus rims.
They fit fine on the front, but did not fit the back because the offset was different. The tire hit the rear wheel well. Totally bogus for buses.
I sold them to David Mayes about ten years ago.
I have been running 15" bus rims for my bus. I finally got a set powdercoated and installed June 2007, after having ugly 15" bus rims for years.

IIRC the Porsche chromed wheels were 4.5" wide.
As I said, the offset was different than stock bus 15" wheels, so they did not fit. With the 356 rims, the tires were farther out from the center.

Other styles of chromed wheels may well have different specs.

My 356 chromies are the same width, just offsett too far to fit the rear. They have an extra step on the hubcap side. I'd say the offsett is about an inch or so more than stock bug rim.

My bus 15's are very ugly. They need paint and tires before I can get them mounted.
