so some old 80s pictures have been posted in the last couple of days. one of my old deluxe of which the photo poster posted the pics on the forum
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=253548
the next photos of a standard, looks like maybe 53 or early 54.
does anybody remember this bus? any idea what happened with it?
the reason i am curious is because i have that tag hanging on my shop wall! im trying to go back into the depths of my poor memory to figure out how i came about having that tag though.

looks like this 52 micro... from front bumper and simlar reddish under primer on right rear qtr panel
before
now
the old owner posted those pics, he sold it in late 80's, now in japan, he will know about the plates....
or maybe you did some gambling and forgot about it at a pawn shop....
very sad if that was the case and you just remember.... |

that was simple. thanks David, i think you are right. looks like the same bus to me.
the plate is stamped 63. i now wonder where the connection is from that plate being left in another bus? all i can think of is that the plate was left in the deluxe when i bought it, or what i really think is that it was in a friends 54 that he bought from oldspeed in the late 90s. im pretty sure that he gave me the plate when it was found inside his bus but he thinks his bus only came with a match set of blue plates.
so that tells me the 52 was either connected to merz or oldspeed somehow maybe?
owell.
strange. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/128070606@N02/albums/

Mark the one I had was a 54 that I got from Brett I collected some junk for it and shortly after went to Japan. I think they cut a scoop in the one I had. |

that plate is on the primered in pics 52,
not on the custom plexi decklid 53 dlx you got from Merz
the 52 sold in late 80's... like 89
since the 52 exported, maybe the plates removed and sold at swap meet
all black plates stamped 63 in year slot
looks like you left the bus at a pawn shop and a lil late now to go back pick up... the lic plate was your receipt~
BTW, where's that BD plexi decklid....??? |

ha! 52 is too early for me. i couldnt handle those vent wings.
i did figure out who owned the bus and i also found out who owns it now. but still dont know about the plate. but that is a good theory on the swap meet thing. never thought about it.
sadly by the time i got the deluxe, charlie had removed the sweet plexi decklid and huge sidescoops for his own private 80s display. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/128070606@N02/albums/

That '52 used to belong to Edward A. He's in the forums from time to time and now has a very nice original Black Australian RHD '57 Oval that he had out t the Classic. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

While on the "missing link" subject and this '54 came up, I have a few questions ~
This is the one from WA that had damage to the left rear corner from a
spring plate failure, correct? Did BB get it from there or from CH, MM, etc?
There were a LOT of really cool NOS BD parts that went missing somewhere
down the line. Anybody remember them? |

There were some NOS BD wheels with stenciled numbers on them...

Sorry guys, I was not insinuating that anything was stolen.
I was just trying to see what happened to all of the NOS parts that were
originally with that bus when it was for sale in Washington, because
Money Mike didn't get them when he bought the bus from BB.
It must have changed hands a few times and the parts got distributed
among the community along the way...
Back to Mark's Missing Link, it looks to be the front plate that isn't even
on the bus in any of the pictures. Who knows how many different ways
that they could have parted in their travels... Cool! |

What's up BeaterBarndoor.
The 1952 Standard Micro #20-028920 in the picture belonged to me during most of the 1980's. I bought it from a guy by the name of Greg StClair (I think that's his last name) for the sum of 3000 bucks. I sold it in 1989-90 for $5500. It went streight to Japan where it remains today, in-fact it recently changed hands in Japan for the tune of 50-55K.
This Barndoor was original and rust free as was my 54 Kombi (see more pics in my gallery) and drove like a champ! all 25 horses. I think one of those photos is from a meet in Bakersfield where I and around 50 buses from the SOTO bus club caravan'ed there. Interesting thing is that the 1952 was not allowed in the car show by the show Judges because "it was not nice enough" WTF!...True story. The caravan to Bakersfield was much better then the car show anyway. Cool pics BTW.
As far as the license plate goes, it was with the 52 when I sold it as well as an early 52 Cali plate.
Enjoying the 57 Aussie RHD, Thanks Drew and Brendan.

thanks Edward.
i recall when you posted those old photos of your buses. they look like some real nice original ones. the price changes over the years is amazing.
i found the current owner of the 52 via email looking for some of my parts i sell. definately a nice bus as it sits today.
still strange that i have the tag from it. i guess it must have been a swap find and somehow it came to me. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/128070606@N02/albums/

Yeah, I thought that was interesting regarding the plate. Were you the one that PM me in regards to the plate a few days ago??
Both my former Barndoors were sweet. The 54 was actually nicer then the 52. The 54 resides in Dr. Mac Jones collection now. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Classic and asked about getting my old friend back, but the price would be allot more then I sold it for $$$$.
