|
|
Well my hacked up baja project finally saw some dirt at the Hollister Hills off road park. No pics since we forgot the memory card for the camera.
So anyway it seems my 34 pict carb does not like being sideways, I park its up on a ledge and it died within seconds and didnt seem like it would restart, so I let it roll back to level ground and it started quickly.
Any suggestions on how to adjust or mod the carb to prevent this in the future? Other than this the thing runs pretty damn good, even the deadspot issue is pretty small with the 009.
Or will this carb always have this issue? I do want to go FI at some point. I have other questions but I can't remember them at the moment, I'm gonna use search to look up homemade tranny mounts and straps now. _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

Slip a 4-5" piece of fuel line over the float bowl vent tube (angled tube seen below). This will prevent fuel from pouring out of that tube and flooding your engine when the getting gets rough, or you are at an extreme angle.

ok i'll try that, i spent sometime trying to find the hibbard book to see if it addresses the issue, but i don't know what i did with it. hopefully this will solve the prob, similar to whats done with holly carbs at the dragstrip.
thanks. _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

Hey shok,
Did the rangers have a problem letting a non-4wheel drive onto the park? I know that theres a buggy area that is very small.
I'm building a Manx and was hoping to take it out on the 4x4 trails. I live in Salinas also. Rick |

The guy at the gate didn't bat an eye took my money and sent me on my way. Just be careful where you go, its like 200 to have a tow truck come get you.
When you pay at the gate you then have to leave and go back up that street a bit the way you came, the ranger didnt tell me that so I just continued on in and found out that was a motorcycle only area.
So up that street there is a blue gate and behind it some really antique looking little building that was a school in the 1890s, you want to get into this gate, using the code provided by the ranger. When do you think you will go? _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

Last year or so, I went along for a ride with a friend and his family in his Dodge Ram 4x4 to Hollister Hills and through one of the camping spots there was a guy swapping an IRS transaxle on his black baja bug. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

Well, I'm working on the Manx and my 77 CJ-5 and I still have a way to go on both.... I camp several times a year at Hollister on the motorcycle side. The Jeep will probably be done before the buggy but I've said that for a long time now.... something always comes up!
I'm workin on it! Rick |

yeh I was thinking of bringing that up here as I drove back home from the park. I think it would be cool to have a lot of VWs out there. I know I'd feel better going on the more challenging trails if there were others with me, instead of going it alone like I did that day.
For $5 and the cost of gas that place seems like a great hangout to me. _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

nice, did you go on th emore advanced trails or just the easy ones? I stuck to the easy ones except for one wrong turn, that hill made of brown baby powder seemed advanced to me. _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

So see I've always wanted one of those for the dunes, but ever since I saw one at the autox, not sure if it was from your group, it was white I think and this was a few years ago, now I want one for the street/handling. So I guess I need two _________________ 1974 Baja Bug Hackjob

How often do they race out in Marina? Never knew there were so many buggies in Salinas. I'll have to make a point of going out to the races on Sept.14. |
