We are back!!
Yesterday at 9am we started to climb the famous Gross Glockner Alp pass in Austria and at 3 pm we were on the other side....
What to do? Drive the 650 miles home in 1 go?
So after a loooooong drive we arived home in Holland at 5 am this morning after an awesome vacation in Czech and Slovenia!
The trip started with some trouble....
After about 100 miles from home the splines from 1 reardrum appeared to be gone for 80%!!
I had torqued it right but it somehow came loose..
At aircooled.nl (thanks Martijn!) I put on a new drum and we were good to go!
In Dresden (germany) the other drum gave the same problem..
Maybe the new bearings i put in set in a bit?
Thanks to the wonderfull help of www and the guys from flat4.org I got a new drum delivered to the hotel in less then 24 hours!!
The rain went, the bug was ok so we could enjoy the country!
Prague:
Tourist!
Because we allready went to Slovenia last year we got in contact with some members from http://www.hroscklub.com.
They invited us to come to there annual show and since it was just a 380 mile trip from the Czech...why not!
Ariving at the show we allready had done over 1400 miles!
So we got the long distance award!!!!
Besides that we also were the lowest by far!!
Mind you the roads in slovenia are terrible! To be honest;
you can't drive a low car over there. Not even slowly!
Car styling?
Well lets say they got stuck in the eighties
But they know how to party!!
Stripshow at the partynight
Some guys went a bit crazy and joined the stripper
It's uh....... well...... uh... never mind
WTF!!!!!!!!!
All done in metal!
My ride in the grass...........
Icing on the cake was the trip home over the Gross Glockner Pass in Austria. AWESOME!!!!
It was our 3rd time with an aircooled ride but this time we had such nice wheater..
In total we covered over 2500 miles in 13 days.
Keep in mind that the roads in the east european countrys are crap!
Potholes, crackes..... pieces of tarmac missing!
And then there is the tracks from heavy trafic on the freeway!
Man... getting your beam lifted for 50 feet while doing 50 ain't funny!
IT'S SCARY!!!
Check my website www.volksfahrer.nl for lot's more!!!! _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

I'm from slovenia and i was just wondering haw did you survived wit such a low car. I live in the countryside and driving slamed is impossible. I had to rise a little my .67 from the first lowering job.
I know the aircooled scene hire is awful. Half of the creations belong to the abortion thread. So i don't visit local shows. But i think the trends are changing and the younger vw enthusiasts give some hope.
Glad you enjoyed the trip. I went to Holland with my bug in 2000 and had great time. |

How i've survived?
Well, driving in slovenia was rough, bumpy, scary and really hard!
I hit a few things and a few things I hit really hard.
But that's the way it goes when driving low over there I guess
During the big parade at the show I drove allong with the club president
so I could look around in your beautifull country rather then just staring at the road for what we were gonna hit next . _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

Awesome pics as usual. I was in Czechoslovakia back when it was still Czechoslovakia in 1991. We were in a rented Nissan or something, and I remember wishing I had my bus the whole trip...

I'm starting to get little wafts of bus stink coming from the north. Something about the unique scent of drivers seat padding when it's glued together with mouse piss and shit that really gets me going... and I'm smelling it! Oh yeah! Time to start loading up the equipment. |

It sure was!
And even though this was our 6th aircooled hollidaytrip it's
always gives a special feeling to drive into your own street after
all those miles.
