Engine dating in 1952

I don't know if this is discussed earlier, how on earth engine dating goes in 1952? Jun ends to 1-496257, but Jul 1-0454005 and so on, Oct again almost Jun's numbers 1-494569?

This info was most likely taken from Progressive Refinements, which has several typing errors.
Both the German and English versions have the same error.

I believe the correct engine number for the end of June should be 1-446267.

I base this theory on an entry in the Motor section of Progressive Refinements that lists a change on the 30th of June. See pic.

This is just my theory.....I might be wrong.......
