first time build...(sandrail) have a 65 beetle rear and 73 1600 motor.new starter cranking slow making it hot.Motor is free and so is flywheel.Do I have right starter?Matched the one that came with it but not sure if it is right.measures 6 inches from base where it bolts to moter to the nipple on the opposite end.any suggestions why it's working so hard.New battery too. Also tried starter off the motor and it throws out and spins like crazy

6 volt starter and 12 volt flywheel maybe?
Will work, but will heat up cranking for long periods of time.

Count the teeth on the flywheel
109 is 6 volt
130 is 12 volt
You also need the right bushing in the transmission to suport the front shaft of the starter.
