I am preparing my Low Light for painting, I found a part I don't know what it is for. Any ideas? Thanks!

Alejandro

That's the early design to run the horn signal up the steering column. There's a contact brush inside there.

That lasted until the big steering wheel change in 1960. 1960-61 was unique, then 1962-71 was differnent as well.
I talked some about the later horns here:

Thank you Andy!

When I tried to get the spring out it feels hard. It is safe to pull it out hard?
I took the clip out, but it does not appear to make a difference, how does it work?

Its been so many years since I've looked at one of those horn contact brushes that I can't remember how hard they are to get apart. So I'm not much help with that question.

The diagram, I got that out of an old repair manual, the "Fix Your Volkswagen!" by Jud Purvis, a 1965 edition. Since almost all of the photos and diagrams in this book are taken from factory sources I'd be willing to bet that you'd find it in the 1960 and earlier big blue Bentley VW Workshop Manuals as well.
