I've been wanting to put a 1970 Formula Vee steering wheel on my '67 Type 1. Will it fit? If I remember correctly, isn't the 1970 & later splined shaft different from the earlier ones? Or does it fit with no modifications?

I'm looking for one of these and I found one on this site in the Classifieds. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller.

I'd also consider this model, providing it fits my car with little to no mods.

Also in consideration would be these wheels... which I'm guessing were offered by either Speedwell or Formula.

This Speedwell wheel would be VERY COOL! I really like this one.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

1960-72 all used the same splines.

All the wheels shown except this one will work for your '67

I had the same dilemma you are currently having few months ago. I had to make a decision which wheel to install in my '67 Squareback:

In the end, I went with this one-

Thank you for the quick replies.

RareAir, I really dig this wheel in your pic... what kind is it and would you be wanting to sell it?

Wow, a plastic-rim "Vee" wheel that's not got a big old crack at the top! I've got one of those in my baja, which I think has a 1966 steering column in it. Mine was cracked when I got it in the early 90s so put a "wheelskins" type of steering wheel cover on it. The last one I wore out, I got lazy and just covered the whole thing with a foam cover. (so,... yes it will fit your 67, in other words!)

Thank you for the spline clarification, Glutamodo. I couldn't remember if the cut-off was in '70 or '71.

WOW! That company is still business? I'd love to get either a black one like in your photo or I'll settle for a wood one. Guess it's time to Google that thing. Thanks, RareAir.

(edit) Oh well... not exactly easy wheels to find. Found plenty of 'em on eGay. But I don't buy anything on there and I can't find anyone that's selling one with the correct boss kit and Wolfsburg horn button. The search continues.

You can buy a Grant-brand hub adapter, they fit straight on. Cost about $15-$20

I find these Superior 500 wheels all the time here in So Cal for under $50. Since you're local, I sugggest attending either the upcoming Drag Day and/or Pomona swapmeet.

That certain button is the most difficult to find. It's just an adapter that accepts the 1962-72 Wolfsburg button

True, I see the wheels a lot at VW events. But I've never seen that horn button. Guess I'll be combing the upcoming Drag Day swap meet area. Thanks, again, for the tips. If anyone has one for sale please contact me.
