The brochure shows it in this picture but never mentions it: http://www.t2-register.de/prospekte/camping1-1978/Seite10.jpg

Maybe 3 or 4 kilos of good herbs? Laughing

I am betting it is the spare tire, being as it is curved on top......

I thought it was a cover for propane tanks? There was one at EveryBus a few years ago...

It's a spare tire, the bumper is moved out around 4-6" on Westfalia fabbed brackets and the middle of the bumper support is cut out for the tire to sit down into.

There was one at a show here last year, didn't get any pics but had a good look at it.

huh, that brochure shows the box on the front bumper, but then if you look it also shows a spare tire in the stock location in the rear...(with a nifty matching plaid cover, even)

Before I bought my current bus, I looked at a bus (Sportsmobile) that had that contraption on the front and the owner said it was for luggage.

It doesnt look tall enough for a sapre tire; unless the bumper crumple zone is recessed or something.

I'm voting for Flux Capacitor.

Crappy little pics stolen from the web;

A pretty sweet setup, and yes the bumper support is cut out.

Yes, so are the fillers over the bumper brackets.
