|
|
Well, I got my thing up and running today, but when I went on my maiden voyage I discovered the ball joints were totally shot.
Anybody do this lately?
Got any tips?
Oh yeah! The engine I put together ran just PERFECT after I did a total rebuild of the engine and the carbs. I could have burned the rubber right off the tires!
Specs-
Cheap EMPI header-new
041 heads with heavy duty springs- New valves
110 cam- used
87mm pistons-used
Duel 40mm dells-used and rebuilt
CB Performance rotory pump-new
Everything else is stock.
TONS of torque and power, and I haven't even tuned it in yet.
Okay...I'm bragging, but I'm just so freaking happy about it!
Besides...Who else am I gonna tell that would even care too hear about it.
Thank's to everyone that helped me out! |

I prefer to use a 4x4 spindle nut socket that I have modified to use in the press, but a ball joint press works well too and is probably safer. Just make sure the balljoints are installed with the notch forward as they have a slot that has to be forward and aft to allow for travel. I had to replace one of the torsion arms in my Thing when we first got it cause some mechanic wasn't aware of this and the previous owner did alot of offroading and the balljoint wobbled the hole in the torsion arm out to the point it wouldn't hold another balljoint.
Have fun! |
