|
|
I thought I was buying short axle tubes, the shock boss is the short one but
the angle for the shock mount is different, can anyone tell me what this
fits My car is a 66 ghia and has been converted to long axle/tubes. That
is the painted one in the picture. Didn't realize the difference until I got home
from the junk yard. Also didn't even see that it didn't have the tab for
mounting the brake line.

the dirty one is a short. So you got what you wanted.
the tab is easy as well, just pull one off a bad tube and weld it on. _________________ 63 Dee "lux Interior" RIP Lux

THANKS for your reply
I realize that the dirty is a short, but the shock mount is oriented differently
and don't know if this makes a difference the bearing housing isn't as thick. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SLIzSCt_cg&list=FLIX26sGa8__1F1loczLPTtg&index=2 |

So you are wanting short housing versions to replace your long housing versions?
I'm a bit confused by your post.......... _________________ Gary

That is exactly right. Trying to get some more fender clearance, it has type-3
drums/brakes and I'm trying to keep the type-3 and go back to short axle/tube.
I went back to the junk yard and I believe I got the
correct ones this time. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SLIzSCt_cg&list=FLIX26sGa8__1F1loczLPTtg&index=2 |

You will have to replace the axles too. _________________ Gary

I swapped out my '67 axles, tubes and end castings for early models. I never noticed if the shock bosses were different or not, but everything went together just fine. _________________ '67 Sunroof

I can swap them, but in in Salt lake...
Ok, the one on the left is a splitcase oval window bug axle tube...
You want them from a 1961 to 1966 bug, the shock mount is curved like the one on the right but 25mm shorter.
This shows the twist of the shock mount, but its a long axle tube.

Shot in the dark here, does anyone know of a machine shop in a approx. 100
mile radius of memphis that can swap end castings on a axle tube.
Or can any machine shop handle this? |
Anyone with a press should be able to do this.
Drive the locater pin out then press the tube out of the housing.
May have to make a mandrel to do this though. _________________ Gary

All the stuff I have sent you already, ifn I had these already I could have sent
them also. What do you charge to swap them so I know what to expect
locally if I can find someone?
Hey Art, hows my motor coming? Can't wait _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SLIzSCt_cg&list=FLIX26sGa8__1F1loczLPTtg&index=2 |
