My buddy has a 2110, its starting to pop thru the exhaust ALOT at a sustained speed like on the highway. What would cause this? There's about 1500 mi. on the engine, maybe it needs a valve adjustment?

I would have gotten in about 2 v-adjustments by 1500 mi.
That would be the first thing I would check.

Dual 44 idf's, 010 at 32*, he's had a few valve adj. since it was built, 044's w/ 42-37 ss valves. Runs good, pulls hard but pops at a steady speed, only thru the exhaust. I guess we'll check the valves, maybe a little tight? Thanks

This may be a long shot but, on some IDF carbs, there are air bypass screws which need to be closed completely or you'll get unmetered air entering the carb. These screws are located next to the idle mixture screws at the base of the carb. Perhaps they vibrated loose?? Also, "the question", the carbs are jetted and tuned properly for the engine, correct?

Using a 010 distributor, I'd back down on the distributor timing to 28º-30º. 32º is a bit much. Check those valve adjustments again.

Carbs are jetted and synced (spelling?) correct. It pops on any steady rpm, the higher the rpm the more pop...pop...bang...pop... I'll check for anything "loose" on the carbs.

1) Check to see if idle jets are clogged. Blow out the idle jets. Take the carb tops off, blow out the idle circuits through the idle jet holes with compressed air.

2) Check for intake leaks by spraying hair spray around the intake manifolds where they bolt to the head. Sometimes a leaky intake can cause popping.

3) Sometimes an exhaust leak can cause backfiring, but usually on the over-run. Check for exhaust leaks.

Most probable cause is #1 above.
