i have the misfortune to work in retail. apart from getting paid about the only redeeming feature is that i meet a reasonable amount of people who live all over the region.
today (as i usually do) i asked a customer if he knew of any old vw's about the place. his reply was, "beetles? err no, but i gave 2 away not recently, a 62 1/2 and a 64". as you can imagine about now i, a) realized he knew his vw's and b) started cursing my timing. after chatting cars in general and his TR7 V8 hillclimb car specifically, he mentioned that he had intended to hillclimb one of the beetles as it had been a friends rally car back in the day and was supercharged... "judson" "yeah a judson" "did the car have all it's rally bits when you gave it away?", "yeah, all bar the supercharger, i sold that... the guy never ended up paying me though".
needless to say i gave him my number in case he finds any more stuff in his shed. i'm not holding my breath. |
