Those big ugly bumper gaurds probably protected the nose. It appears the passenger bumper gaurd was hit with the impact causing the license plate to come loose.
It may not even be his car but a friend's. JFK Jr. would have been about 15 when the last Ghias were produced. The car pictured is a '72 to '74 vintage. I wonder why he has the sun visors down at night - maybe so they could bot get a good picture? _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Looks like a 74. It's got shock absorbers behind the bumper. _________________ oo9less since 2007

No I think those overriders are off because he had just rammed into a paparazzi moments earlier who was trying to get a similar picture (with the overriders and plate lined up right.) |

I have read somewhere else that John Jr. did drive
around in a 1974 Ghia convertible. Until now, never saw a pic of those butt-ugly front overriders!
OMG those are terrible.
The crush tubes behind the front bumper were also used on the
1973 model year 'verts and coupes. _________________ ****************************

Found it........
http://www.greentownshipfd.com/runs.html
Scroll to the Fully Involved Barn Fire April 4, 2007
it says:
Quote: |
More than a dozen antique cars were stored in the barn and destroyed by the fire. Among the cars destroyed in the fire were a 1902 steam powered car, a 1949 Chevrolet convertible, a 1911 Ford Model T Torpedo which was a former Coca Cola car, the Karmann Ghia used by John F. Kennedy Jr. when he went to college. Other cars had been used in movies starring Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro. Fire Police Captain Vinny controlled traffic and scene access with the help of fire police from Allamuchy. A bucket loader was required to move the remains of the building around in order to extinguish hot spots. The cars, rubber, and old cedar construction fueled the fire. Units performed overhaul and cleared the scene at 20:50. |
I´m afraid it must have been this car. Maybe someone got the remains......?
Love this internet thing though |
