What do you guys do about alternator terminals?
Back in the summer I had some corrosion issues so I went to take off the lead and scrub the living heck out of it. I made it as far as take off the lead when the bolt snapped on the main positive lead. I quickly grabbed a gator clip and drove to the VW shop. We cut a circular solderless connector and jammed it between the nut and the insulator. It worked until yesterday when we were hit with torrential rain, then the alt light started to faintly glow. I tried to ghetto everything up by jamming something in it, cleaning it and covering it but the connection has just gone bad.
Is my alternator toast? Will I be yanking my engine this weekend? Will driving with the light faint drain my battery? How can I stop the terminal from getting corroded in the future? |

She was great up until this evening. I drove a few miles with energy sucking radio turned up and no problems. I went to drive home and the light comes on. What is up. I wiggled the wire and I couldn't get anything better than half light.
Sigh, $50 I guess. |
