I have been messing around with my 36hp, doing mock up on dual carbs, made a cool tailpipe (for my bus) plug wire tube, manifolds, distributor clamp and some cool buggy exhaust velocity stacks... anyone have some old tin, and a pulley layin' around?

Any comments or tips or other cool, not overly hurtful comments welcome!

Don't mind the vise grips, studs are nuked! I will fix that soon, manifolds need "tweaking" anyway...

I don't know how to post the pic on here... I tried! Here's a link...

Dump the OO9 and put in a VJ4BR25 or 0 231 129 010 distributor.

Besides looking "period correct" they offer better performance over a OO9.

The VJ4BR8(019) were originally on 36hp Bus engines and and the VJR4BR25(010) were on Bastard 40hp Bus engines.

Yeah, I used the stock end castings for the base and the top flanges are made off of the og manifold center(s). I spanned the distance in between with a scrap bit of tube off of an old pipe clamp... To that I added a little heat and bend... They turned out great, but I still have to tweak them a bit more.

Anyone point me in the right direction as far as a camshaft?

I plan on doing some very mild port work to the otherwise stock heads and run stock displacement (for now) yet still want a bit more lump at idle...

I love thesamba!

Those intakes are l-o-o-o-n-g! Have you thought about shortening them to help the carbs against potential icing problems?

The manifolds are 12 1/4" tall from head to top of carb. not stacks but carb. So maybe they are a bit tall... but they can't be to much taller then an okrassa manifold, can they?

The top of the carb, is near the same height as the top of the genorator backing plate on my engine. It appears to be fairly close height wise to the beaty in this pic... Is icing going to be a concern?

Not sure, I wish I had a set of Okrasas in my hands to confirm this!
Either way, ambitious project you have there. Something similar to what I want to do when I have more time in the shop.

It looks like the the Okrasa are 8.125". Bottom of flange to top of flange. I might be a hair off because it is hard to measure exactly w/ them installed. I hope this helps.

With that being said, my measurement was 12 1/4" including a 28 pict, so providing a 28pict is approx. 4" tall, I am close....

I have balancing tubes on mine... they wrap around the back of the shroud. I will mock-up some preheater action tonight. As soon as I fix my intake studs, I want to start making the linkage...

Still gotta weld up my ex-towel bar bumper tailpipe... To bent to save IMO, so I recycled it!

Need a pulley, and some tin.... soon enough!

Thanks all!
