I've had a '72, '73 and '75 but they're gone now, replaced by a '73 standard. |

I have 2 '71 Supers, a '74 Super, a '75 'vert, and a '78 'vert (plus a '75 standard and my '62 ragtop). I love all years of aircooled, but of the Supers, I really like the '71's. |

73 SB. I bought the car in March of 2007 from a guy in town for $2500. title in hand. It has a racing 1776cc. I drove it around for a while and in Dec of 2007 I decided to tear it down to restore/fix it up.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles found a car in the woods somewhere and ran the VIN and it showed my name. The officer came by the house and asked me where my car was and I told him at my friends shop.
We went overthere and he inspected the car. The guy I bought it from had taken the VIN and title from the one in the woods and place them on my car. He had cutout the VIN under the back seat. This was before I knew to check there.
The car was confescated and sat in an impound lot for 11 months. The guy I bought it from finally went to court and I was in luck because they made the guy pay me back what I had paid him for the car and for any work I had done on the car and could show receipts for.
In Texas if a car has no VIN it gets crushed unless a District court signs an order for the state to assing a number.
Well the judge asked me what I had planned to do to the car and I told her I was going to restore it in a patriotic theme in honor of our Veterans.
Well she had the Officer created the paperwork for her to sign. She signed it and I got the car the very same day.
The State Vehicle and Registration office in Austin said that that had not happen in 42 years.
I am in the middle of doing it and hope to have it done for a reveal at the VW Show in Fredericksburg Texas in April 2009.
The car is a true survivor just like all the brave men and women who defend our freedoms. _________________ AJ

73 seems to be a popular year
i guess its the only '03 in US not to have the ugly bumpers
ive had 2 73s myself, a hard top and a softtop
as well as my first bug was a 71 super, a 72 super parts bug and my current 74 super
ive had 4 standard pov paks but would always own a super over one now _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?
